VIRTUAL BRIDGE(Interconnect:SINET) Virtual Bridge Interconnect: SINET

Interconnect: SINET is an optional service of Virtual Bridge offered by IDC Frontier, which allows you to have a connection to SINET, an academic information network used by universities and research institutions across Japan, with guaranteed bandwidth and a closed network.
It offers secure connections which do not go through the Internet, and supports research institutions by letting them share high-volume data in a secure manner, and by accelerating their collaborative researches.
* Subscription to Virtual Bridge is required to use this service.
About SINET
SINET is an academic information infrastructure, built and operated by the National Institute of Informatics (NII) and utilized by over 1,000 universities and research institutions throughout Japan. It connects research sites domestically within Japan as well as internationally without going through the Internet, allowing high-volume data to be transferred in high speed and collaborative researches to be conducted remotely in real time.
By IDC Frontier connecting to SINET as a "service provider," customers can connect IDC Frontier's cloud and data center environments to SINET via a closed network.
Service features
Protect your important research data with secure and closed network

Virtual Bridge (Interconnect: SINET) uses an L2 network which is totally closed and does not go through the Internet, suppressing unauthorized accesses from outside as well as information leaks from inside. You can send and receive highly confidential research data and academic information securely and reliably. IDC Frontier thoroughly manages communication routes to protect important data for research institutions.
Bandwidth assured. Stable communications provided.

This service guarantees bandwidth of between 1 Gbps and 5 Gbps*, making your environment stable, always fast and high-quality even during peak hours, which cannot be expected with a best-effort service. As it can send and receive high-volume data rapidly and surely, it is suitable for transfer of massive experimental data, or remote collaborative research with which the real-timeness is crucial.
* For bandwidth of more than 5 Gbps, please consult with us.Highly-reliable redundant network environment

Devices and network lines used for the service offerings being configured fully redundantly, the service is highly available all the time even in case of a trouble. Furthermore, IDC Frontier solely manages installation and operation of the facilities, reducing your operational burdens. We support your research activities with the highly-reliable network running stably for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Connect directly to high power DCs and a Japanese domestic cloud.

IDC Frontier offers high power data centers as well as various types of domestically produced Japanese cloud services. Linking these with SINET, you can create a low latency environment without the foreign exchange risk, which is unlike the case if you use a non-Japanese cloud in Japan.
Also, using with SINET's closed network allows you to transfer high-volume data rapidly and steadily while securing confidentiality, enabling reliable operations of a wide range of workloads for AI analysis, collaborative research, or more.
Usage examples

Multi-cloud data integration among universities and enterprises
Link universities and research institutions connected through SINET and cloud services, such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, on the same closed network and have them operate in an integrated manner. You can store analytical results in a data lake on a cloud and share them securely, realizing seamless data integration from an on-premise environment to a cloud and a campus network.

Securely monitor remote experimental equipment.
Large experimental devices such as microscopes and particle accelerators can be centrally managed by control servers in IDC Frontier's Data Center. Videos and control signals are sent and received through a closed network on SINET, which enables operation and monitoring with low latency and high image quality even from a remote location.

Mutual backup of large files
DR (disaster recovery)
Two-way replication between storage of a university or research institution and IDC Frontier's Data Center. Automatic failover is performed when a network failure occurs, then the high-volume data is securely synchronized and protected.
